AERTHLINGS is a breath of fresh air in the mobile RPG space. It doesn't take itself too seriously, and that's its greatest strength. The premise—a planet broken into 'chonks' by chaos gremlins—is genuinely funny and sets a lighthearted tone that persists throughout the experience.

The gameplay loop of exploring Earth to find pieces of Ærth is surprisingly compelling. I found myself really invested in the mutation trees; seeing your cute little underdog hero turn into a powerful cosmic defender is very rewarding. The combat is tactical enough to keep you thinking without being overly punishing.

The optional integration with NFC figurines is a cool throwback to the 'toys-to-life' era, but I'm glad the developers made sure the digital-only experience doesn't feel gimped. It's colorful, clever, and offers a lot of content for an adventure game. Definitely worth checking out if you want an RPG with a sense of humor.

I grew up on Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy, so I have a soft spot for the aesthetic here. However, 'retro' shouldn't be an excuse for clunky UI and a lack of direction. Aerthlings tries so hard to look like a SNES game that it inherits the frustrations of that era without the charm that made the originals legendary. The combat is slow, and the encounter rate is high enough to make exploration feel like a chore rather than a joy.

The writing is standard 'save the world' fare. It’s safe, predictable, and frankly, a bit boring for anyone who has played more than two RPGs in their life. There is some decent effort in the pixel art, but the animation is stiff. It’s an okay distraction if you’re desperate for a turn-based fix on your phone, but it doesn't hold a candle to the titles it’s trying to emulate. It’s time we stopped giving passes to games just because they use pixels.

New to ÆRTH? A cinematic intro sets the scene, and NPC-guided quests walk you through your first chonks — the worlds you'll expand, explore, and eventually call home. Your crew also now has a home: the collection screen tracks every character you've found, scanned, or traded for, and rewards you as you go.
This latest version has more bug fixes for the above, hoping to fix trade portal shop, broken quest markers for healing scars, and issues causing characters to reset.

Planet ÆRTH is toast. Literally shattered into space CHONKS. Thanks to the MOONLINGS… tiny chaos gremlins who thought crashing their MOON into the ÆRTHLINGS’ home planet was a “good idea.”
The ÆRTHLINGS had to go into deep cubernation just to ensure their survival, but the destruction was so violent they were ejected from their world and into ours.
In the aftermath of the MOONCRASH, the ÆRTHLINGS, stranded on EARTH, are scattered across our world, waiting to be returned to ÆRTH and awakened from cubernation.
