I’ve seen plenty of arcade shooters in my time, and AirAttack 2 is certainly one of the better-looking ones on a mobile screen. The lighting and the way buildings crumble under fire is handled with more care than your average free-to-play junk. It’s got that heavy, cinematic feel that tries to elevate the genre, backed by an orchestral score that’s actually quite good, even if it does loop a bit too frequently for my liking.
However, once you peel back the layers of paint, you’re left with a fairly standard vertical scroller. The upgrade loop is predictable—grind for currency to make your guns slightly bigger so you can tackle the next mission. It lacks the surgical precision of a true Cave shmup, and the hitbox can feel a bit generous, which takes some of the tension out of the 'bullet hell' moments. It's a competent game, but it doesn't reinvent the wheel; it just polishes it until it shines.
