Astro Party is the gold standard for what a 'local multiplayer' mobile game should be. It is chaotic, unfair in the best way possible, and guaranteed to cause shouting and laughter. Using just two buttons—one to turn and one to shoot—it levels the playing field so that anyone can pick it up and be competitive within seconds.

The physics-based combat, where you drift through space while trying to lead your shots, creates moments of genuine tension. The screen wrap-around mechanic adds a layer of strategy that feels like classic Asteroids on steroids. If you have three friends and one iPad, there is quite literally no better game to play. It turns any gathering into an instant tournament.

Now this is real gaming. It’s simple, it’s brutal, and it’s meant to be played with people sitting next to you. No online matchmaking, no 'battle passes'—just pure chaotic fun. The controls are just two buttons (turn and shoot), which anyone can pick up. It’s hard to find games that capture this 'couch co-op' energy anymore, especially on mobile. My only gripe is that it requires physical friends, which are getting harder to find at 40.
