Baby's Musical Hands is a landmark title in early childhood apps. It is a perfect example of 'less is more.' The screen is simply a grid of brightly colored squares that respond to touch with musical notes and animal sounds. For an infant, the immediate feedback of 'I touch, something happens' is a vital developmental milestone.
The app is impressively robust—it supports multi-touch, meaning a baby can smash the whole screen with their hands and hear a beautiful chord rather than a glitchy mess. There are no menus, no ads, and no 'game over' screens. It’s a safe, purely creative space that introduces children to cause-and-effect and music. It’s a must-have for parents with iPads, often acting as the very first 'game' a child will ever play.

As a game designer and developer, I love my iOS devices. But as a new father, I realized how much my son loves them too. I decided I could put my experience developing for iOS to use, and build an app for my son to play with. Baby's Musical Hands was born!
