I've been playing rhythm games since the first Dance Dance Revolution hit arcades, and I can tell you that Beat Fever is built for the 'TikTok generation,' not for purists. The song list is heavy on top-40 hits, which is fine, but the hit detection feels 'mushy.' It lacks the sharp, frame-perfect feedback that makes a great rhythm game satisfying.
The game is buried under a mountain of social fluff. Avatars, rooms, and emotes are all designed to keep you spending on gems and energy. The multiplayer 'battles' are often determined more by your gear and boosts than your actual rhythm skill. Itβs loud, colorful, and busy, but it lacks the soul of a true music game. If you just want to tap along to some radio hits, itβs adequate. If you want a challenge, look elsewhere.
