Boost 2 is a sensory overload in the best possible way. It takes the tunnel-runner concept and cranks it up to eleven with vibrant colors and dizzying speeds. The tilt controls are some of the best I've ever experienced—they are incredibly sensitive and accurate, which is vital when you are dodging obstacles at Mach 1.
As the levels progress, the tunnel opens up and shifts, keeping you constantly guessing. The 'boost' mechanic feels fantastic, giving you a surge of speed that is both terrifying and exhilarating. It’s an arcade experience that is perfect for short bursts of adrenaline.
Boost 2 is what I call a 'waiting room game.' It’s built for five-minute bursts where you have nothing better to do. The sense of speed is decent, and the minimalist art style actually helps with clarity, but the gameplay is about as deep as a puddle. You move left, you move right, you try not to hit a block. That's it.
I appreciate the lack of modern 'freemium' nonsense, but the game hasn't aged particularly well. In an era where mobile games can offer complex narratives or intricate mechanics, Boost 2 feels like a relic of the early App Store days. It's fine for what it is, but don't expect it to hold your attention for more than a few days. The tilt controls are responsive enough, but they feel like a gimmick from 2010. It’s a polished tech demo masquerading as a full game.
Performance: Runs flawlessly at high frame rates. Very optimized for older hardware.
Buy if: You enjoy minimalist arcade games and chasing high scores.
Skip if: You want depth, variety, or a reason to play for more than ten minutes.
Available on: iPhone, iPad, iPod
