Darts Keeper is a highly functional and well-designed scoring app for dart enthusiasts. It’s not a game of darts itself, but a dedicated digital scorepad that removes the friction of mental math. For those who play in leagues or with friends in a pub, this app is a lifesaver, especially when dealing with the high-pressure math of a 501 'Double Out' game.
The interface is clean and prioritized for speed, allowing you to input scores with a single tap. I particularly appreciated the 'Checkout Suggestion' feature, which tells you exactly which segments to hit when you're in the closing stages of a leg. While it’s a niche utility, its execution is perfect for its intended purpose. It includes various game modes like X01 and Cricket, and the stats tracking allows you to see your average improving over time. It’s an essential tool for any serious darter.
I’ve spent four decades playing games, and I’ve spent nearly as many throwing tungsten at sisal boards. When I look for a digital companion for my dart sessions, I expect efficiency and perhaps a bit of inspiration. Darts Keeper provides the former but utterly fails the latter. It’s a spreadsheet with a better UI. It tracks your 501 and your Cricket scores well enough, and the input method doesn't get in the way of your rhythm, which is the bare minimum requirement. However, it feels clinical. There’s no weight to the interaction, no flair in the presentation, and certainly no 'game' here to speak of.
The statistics are present, and I suppose for the younger generation that needs a graph to tell them they’re inconsistent, it serves a purpose. But for a conservative gamer like myself, I find the lack of personality offensive. It does exactly what it says on the tin and not a single thing more. It’s stable, sure, but so is a rock, and I don't give rocks high scores. If you’ve lost your chalk and have a phone in your pocket, it’ll do, but don't expect it to enhance the spirit of the game.
Performance: Extremely lightweight; runs perfectly on older hardware with no noticeable lag.
Buy if: You absolutely hate chalk and want the simplest possible digital scorekeeper.
Skip if: You want a gamified experience, online play, or advanced training drills.
Available on: iPhone, iPad
