GWENT: Rogue Mage is a phenomenal expansion of the Witcher universe that successfully marries the deep strategy of GWENT with the addictive loop of a roguelike deckbuilder. Playing as the ambitious mage Alzur is a treat for lore fans, as it predates the witchers we know and love. The single-player focus is a breath of fresh air, allowing you to experiment with wildly powerful card synergies that wouldn't be possible in a balanced competitive meta.
The game is notoriously tough, but that makes every successful run feel like a genuine accomplishment. The map navigation adds a layer of risk management—do you visit a place of power to upgrade a card, or take a risky elite fight for a better treasure? The production value is top-tier, with incredible card art and voice acting that fans have come to expect from CD PROJEKT RED. It’s a deep, rewarding, and highly polished experience that is a must-play for card game enthusiasts.
Dinsun here. I’ve always preferred single-player experiences, so Rogue Mage is exactly what I wanted from Gwent. The roguelike structure fits the card game perfectly; it adds a sense of stakes to every match that the multiplayer lacks. Building a broken deck over the course of a run is genuinely satisfying, and the 'Witcher' lore is handled with the usual CDPR polish. The map navigation is simple but effective, forcing you to make tough decisions about which path to take.
It’s not perfect—the AI can be a bit brain-dead sometimes, and the narrative is much lighter than I expected from a Witcher-related game. It feels more like a really polished mini-game than a full-scale RPG. But for the price, it’s a fantastic deal. It’s a 78—a rock-solid experience that respects your time and doesn’t try to nickel-and-dime you with microtransactions. It’s conservative, well-made, and highly playable.
Performance: Highly optimized; the art style looks great even on older iPads.
Buy if: You love Gwent but hate multiplayer, or you’re a fan of Slay the Spire-style roguelikes.
Skip if: You want a deep, choice-driven Witcher RPG experience.
