Hero Survivors successfully captures the 'Vampire Survivors' magic and translates it into a high-fantasy setting with a bit more punch. The bullet-hell survival genre is crowded, but this title stands out due to its character variety and the punchiness of its abilities. Each hero feels distinct; playing as a wizard requires a completely different kiting strategy than a tanky knight.
The rogue-lite progression is the real hook here. Every run earns you gold for permanent stat boosts, making that 'one more run' feeling very real. My only gripe is that the screen can become a literal soup of particle effects in the late game, making it hard to see enemy hitboxes, but that’s also part of the charm—the absolute chaos of being an overpowered deity against thousands of monsters. It’s a solid, grindy, and rewarding experience for anyone who loves power-fantasy simulators.
We’re currently in the middle of a 'Survivor' gold rush, and Hero Survivors is one of the more cynical attempts to cash in. It’s a Vampire Survivors clone through and through, but it misses the mark on almost every level. The balance is completely broken—you either get the one 'good' weapon and steamroll the level, or you’re swarmed and killed within minutes because the gold-to-upgrade ratio is hilariously skewed. It feels like it was tuned by a spreadsheet designed to maximize 'revive' ad views rather than by someone who actually plays games.
The grind is unbearable. You’ll find yourself running the same 30 levels over and over just to get a single skill point. And if the grind doesn't kill your interest, the ads will. It’s another game where you spend more time looking at promotional material for other junk games than you do actually playing. It’s a lazy, uninspired copycat that lacks the charm, the variety, and the fair progression of the titles it’s trying to emulate. Don't waste your time.
Performance: Frame rates tank when the screen fills with too many enemies.
Buy if: You've played every other survivor game and are desperate for a new (albeit worse) one.
Skip if: You want a balanced rogue-like experience or have no patience for extreme grinding.

Hero Survivors is a high-octane roguelike survival game where players must endure waves of monsters. As you defeat enemies, you gather experience to level up and choose from randomized skills and weapons. Combine different abilities to create devastating synergies. With permanent upgrades, multiple unlockable heroes, and increasingly difficult maps, the challenge never ends.
Dozens of unique heroes to unlock
Over 100 skills and weapon combinations
Permanent meta-progression system
One-handed easy controls
Epic boss encounters every 5 minutes
In the early minutes, focus on one high-damage area-of-effect (AoE) skill. This ensures you can clear space to collect XP gems without getting trapped by the expanding horde.
Pay attention to which passive items evolve your active weapons. For example, matching a specific 'Tome' with your 'Fireball' might transform it into a continuous stream of flames that melts bosses in seconds.
Characters are typically unlocked by completing specific achievements or reaching time milestones on different maps.
