Knotwords is a masterclass in puzzle design by Zach Gage and Jack Schlesinger. It’s one of those rare games that feels like it should have always existed. By stripping away the trivia of a crossword and replacing it with the logic of Sudoku, it creates a pure word-building challenge that is both accessible and incredibly deep. Each section of the grid acts as a mini-anagram, and as you fill in the letters, the constraints of the surrounding words naturally guide you toward the solution.
The daily structure—featuring a Classic, Mini, and various Streak challenges—makes it the perfect morning ritual. The 'Knotwords+ ' version on Apple Arcade is particularly great for its clean UI and lack of interruptions. It’s elegant, minimal, and genuinely makes you feel smarter as you work through the tougher puzzles. If you enjoy word games at all, this is likely to become your new daily obsession. It is, quite simply, the best word game released in years.
Available on: iPhone, iPad, iPod
Version 1.0.23Mon May 20 2024
We've got some fixes for people with save and freezing issues, and some puzzle fixes and updates!
Requires iOS 13.6 or later. Compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.Knotwords is a minimal and elegant logic puzzle — with words.
The rules are simple: arrange the letters in each section so every word is valid, across and down.
Each puzzle may seem difficult at first — but like all my favorite newspaper puzzles, it gets easier as you progress. Each step guides you naturally towards the solution.
This is the kind of game I've been trying to make my whole career — I'm amazed Jack and I discovered this design. We hope you like it.

Knotwords is a unique logic-based word puzzle from creators Zach Gage and Jack Schlesinger. Each grid is divided into sections with specific letter requirements; players must arrange these letters so that every horizontal and vertical row forms a valid English word. The game includes Daily Classic and Daily Mini puzzles, a monthly puzzlebook archive, and a streak system to track progress.

Elegant, minimal design
Look for sections that only have one letter slot. These are the easiest way to start. Once a single letter is placed, it immediately limits the possibilities for the words it belongs to, creating a ripple effect of logic.
Play the 'Daily Mini' first to warm up your brain. It usually takes less than two minutes and uses common vocabulary, unlike the 'Daily Classic' which can get quite complex.
The Pro version (or Apple Arcade version) unlocks the full archive of past puzzles and removes advertisements for a smoother experience.
