Koi Farm is a beautiful exercise in genetic experimentation. It takes the simple concept of a fish pond and adds a surprisingly deep breeding algorithm that makes every new hatchling feel like a discovery. The UI is incredibly clean, staying out of the way of the visuals. It feels less like a 'game' and more like a digital hobby. Koi Farm doesn't try to be anything other than a peaceful digital pond. As someone who’s seen the gaming industry get louder and more aggressive over the last 20 years, I can appreciate the restraint here. The core mechanic—breeding fish to see what patterns emerge—is surprisingly addictive in a low-stakes way. There’s no timer, no game over, and no push for cash. It’s just you and the fish.

Technically, the procedural generation is impressive. The variety of patterns is staggering, and the 'koi book' provides just enough structure to give you goals without feeling like a chore. My main gripe is the lack of a zoom feature; on a small screen, it’s hard to appreciate the details of the more complex mutations. It’s a very niche title, and if you’re looking for 'excitement,' you’re in the wrong place. But if you want a digital desk toy that looks and sounds beautiful, this is a class act.
