Last Asylum: Plague is a solid entry into the mobile survival horror space. It nails the atmosphere—the hallways feel cramped, the lighting is oppressive, and the sound design is genuinely creepy. Footsteps in the distance actually mean something, and the game does a great job of making you feel vulnerable. The stealth mechanics are basic but effective; there’s a real tension in holding your breath while hiding under a bed as a plague-infested nurse walks past.
The controls can be a bit finicky during high-stress chases, which led to a few 'unfair' deaths in my experience. Also, the resource management (battery life) can feel a bit overly restrictive at times, forcing you into total darkness more often than necessary for the 'spook' factor. Despite these minor flaws, it was a very atmospheric experience while it was available.
I’m tired of the 'spooky asylum' trope. It was old when Outlast did it, and it's ancient now. Last Asylum: Plague tries to lean into the atmosphere, but everything is so dimly lit you can't see the mediocre textures they’re trying to hide. The combat is clunky, and the stealth is broken—enemies either see through walls or are completely blind.
The 'plague' theme is barely explored beyond some green gas effects. It feels like a budget asset flip that someone put a 'Horror' tag on. There are no original ideas here. It’s just another game where you walk down a hallway, a loud noise plays, and you're supposed to be scared. I’ve been gaming for 30 years; it takes more than a loud violin sting to move the needle for me.
Performance: Occasional frame drops in large rooms; thermal throttling occurs.
