Fun but a few bugs
Sat Jan 11 2025 JesstheMess1983I love this app and my 5 year old is more often than not engaged with it. However, we are having a lot of trouble with tuning the guitar. The tuner will pick up every sound in the room and if you have a kid, you know silence is not how they roll. In particular, we are having trouble with the G string. This is definitely the thing that will kill any session with my kid. I sent a message in the app about it and have not received a response. Also, I recently had a weird thing where the app asked me to pay for the backstage pass even though I thought I had already bought it. I gave them the benefit of the doubt, after sending them a message in the app, I just went ahead and paid it again. It’s worth it.
Good idea, terrible execution
Sat Jul 26 2025 iagree83I really wanted to like this App, but as a tool to teach young kids (or anyone for that matter) it is not only ineffective but more likely to turn kids off to music than help them enjoy and progress in it. The fundamental issue is that there is no logical learning path to follow. When you go to “lessons” for chords, you are given a series videos of random and unrelated chords with no logical connection or progression. So the first chord you learn is G (good place to start) and the second chord you learn is F#m (a bar chord) then G# (a chord I dare say most guitar players will never play in their lives. Same story for songs. They could start with one note songs like “Twinkle Twinkle” to help kids learn the frets and build strength, then progress to playing two strings at once, etc. Or at least start simple and related chords (G and C for example) and then provide some simple songs to practice transitioning (again, Twinkle Twinkle is a great place to start). They don’t do this, and don’t seem interested in trying to actually teach at all. It’s certainly a missed opportunity, but also a frustrating waste for people who have paid money for the instrument and app thinking it was thoughtfully designed.
Great idea, but frustrating to use
Thu Aug 21 2025 CH_ReviewI really love the concept of this app and think it has huge potential to get people excited about guitar. However, I ran into a lot of frustration. The songs play at a slightly slower pace than the notes the app tells me to hit, so I constantly feel like I’m tripping ahead. On top of that, the app rarely recognizes my guitar playing—even in a quiet room, using headphones to block out the app’s own sound. I tested this on both iPad and iPhone with the same result.
Because of this, it’s nearly impossible to make progress even when playing correctly. I tried leaving this feedback through the in-app form, but it wouldn’t send—so I’m posting here in hopes the team sees it. If responsiveness and sound recognition improve, this could be an amazing tool for both kids and adults.
Tone recognition works only on *some* devices
Mon Jan 15 2024 Person134689I haven’t bought the subscription yet, but here’s my experience so far:
On my phone (iPhone 13 mini) for the free balloon pop game: it struggled to recognize when we played the notes and pretty much completely useless as a learning tool.
But then I tried the app on another device (iPad mini 5th gen) and it worked much better. Well enough that I’ll probably try out the paid subscription as well.
I highly recommend testing the app on your device before buying the subscription (or the logo guitar if you want to learn to play it on the app). If you have access to another guitar that’s probably the best way to test it.
Less than expected
Tue Dec 24 2024 DJ SugarFreeBought this for my son for Christmas, he's 6 and excited to learn. The tuner on this app is basically useless. It doesn't even respond to you when you pluck a string most of the time, and when it does it tells you you're wildly out of tune while another third party tuner says you're in tune.
The app hears its self and tells you you're hitting the wrong notes because it hears its own notes. I'm convinced that this app will ONLY work with headphones. I gotta say I was very excited to start with this with him but I'm extremely disappointed that basically everything in this app is not working how it is advertised. I'll make it work I'm sure because I'm a musician but I really thought that for this price the app would be better and I wouldn't have to do everything for him that the app said it would.
I wanted to like it, I really did
Wed May 14 2025 Benjamin7887This was exactly the kind of app I wanted for my daughter and me. The problem is it just doesn’t work for its primary purpose. The main feature on the app is learning songs and playing along, but the app’s reception of the notes is horrendous.
I’ve tried with both of my daughter’s Loog guitars and all of my adult guitars (and my ukulele) on multiple iPads and iPhones to be sure that it’s not the device and it’s not the instruments, it’s the app. I wanted this to be a fun way for my daughter to learn guitar, but it’s just frustrating for her when she plays something perfectly only for the app to register it as a miss.
Why aren’t they focusing all of their efforts into fixing this? They keep offering updates with new features and bug fixes, but they haven’t fixed the issue that matters most BY FAR! What is wrong with the people at Loog? This is unforgivable.
Perfect the way it was
Thu Apr 03 2025 Barthomew the 800000thI used to love the old version of the app, where everything was *ahem* free, but when I logged in today, it gave me no choice but to switch to the new app, which I wasn’t thrilled about, but willing to give it a shot. So, I open the app, and it offers me to subscribe, so I thought it was just for like, new clothing items, but no, I would learn that latter. I was so excited to learn that there were new artists to play music from, but you had to pay for them! What’s the point of having Olivia Rodrigo or Katy Perry or Billie Ellish if you can’t even play their songs. It’s taunting you because you don’t want to waste ten dollars a month or whatever. It only gets worse when I try to actually work on chords and learn that the lovely lady who would be in the videos was replaced by animation. Infuriating.
Ukulele is NOT supported!!
Wed Jan 03 2024 RLynn324We bought our daughter the loog ukulele for Christmas and we were looking forward to trying the app as a fun way to support her learning to play (my husband plays so he will mainly be teaching her) BUT I downloaded the app and the ukulele is not even an option. I don’t understand how this feature is so highly advertised or why I have received multiple emails encouraging me to download the app when it does not even apply to the product I purchased.
We are so happy with the ukulele - it’s perfect for tiny hands and such a nice design (and the strap we also purchased for it), but we are so disappointed that the app does not support the ukulele. Please loog, this could be such a great learning tool! Please add the ukulele!
*I cannot review the actual app/games bc I can’t even log in unless I choose the wrong instrument :(
Issues picking up sounds
Thu Jun 26 2025 DnK0614The app is a good concept however it won’t pick up chords correctly. There are times that the correct chord is played on time and the app will mark it as missed or at times no chord is even played and the app states it’s being played perfectly. It is not consistent I am an experienced guitar player and purchased this app for my daughter to practice and she likes it but gets frustrated that the app will not display accurate information. I even played some of the songs to confirm it’s the app and not the player and I have the same issues my 5 year old is having. I have emailed Loog a few times asking if there is something else I can do to resolve the issue and they never answer me. This is an app issue.
It’s okay
Thu Jul 24 2025 AdalynGJI give the app a 3 just because the tuner is so frustrating I finally gave up and used a real clip on guitar tuner(not from Loog) but this is a newer version of the old and app and the old app was WAY better then this (so called) new app messes up learning guitar for fun! But with the Loog backstage pass I love the “Loog Guitar Show”. But I also love the vast amount of music artists that you can learn to play parts of the song. Also I like the way they sorted the song library from beginner to advanced/pro. So over all the app gets a 3 and the GREAT instruments get a 5 out of 5! So definitely check out the instruments!! (The instruments are so worth the price)(and they last for years)
