Mattel Match is a delightful surprise for anyone who grew up playing with Barbie, Hot Wheels, or He-Man. At its core, it is a polished match-3 puzzler, but the way it integrates these legendary IPs makes it feel like more than just another clone in a crowded genre. The visual fidelity is impressive; the Barbie levels are draped in signature pink aesthetics, while the Hot Wheels stages feel kinetic and high-octane.

What truly sets it apart is the collection mechanic. Instead of just clearing levels for the sake of progression, you are actively building a digital toy box. Unlocking a classic 1968 Twin Mill or a vintage Castle Grayskull feels genuinely rewarding. The power-ups are cleverly themed—seeing a tiny toy car blast through a row of obstacles is a satisfying touch. While the difficulty spikes in later levels (as is tradition for the genre), the nostalgia factor and the sheer charm of the presentation keep you coming back for 'just one more level.'

Mattel Match is exactly what you think it is: a corporate synergy project designed to remind you that you like Barbie and Hot Wheels. As a man who grew up with these toys, seeing He-Man used as a power-up in a Candy Crush clone is a bit depressing. The 'toy collection' aspect is clearly designed to trigger that collector's itch, but the actual gameplay is as generic as it gets.

It’s well-produced—the colors are bright, the animations are smooth, and it looks 'expensive'—but there's no soul here. It’s a marketing tool. If you have kids who like these brands, they might enjoy it for twenty minutes, but anyone looking for a real puzzle game should look elsewhere. It's a 45 because it’s polished, but I can’t give it a higher score for just being a pretty billboard.
