Great app for Quest owners
Tue Oct 01 2019 Roxtar73I e seen many 1 star reviews that make no sense. They are rating the app based on their experience with their headsets. If I were to review the Oculus Quest it would definitely get 4.5 stars. The app however gets a full five stars as it does so much cool stuff. My favorite thing is being able to check my battery while charging my headset. Also being able to see if I need new batteries for my controllers is awesome. I know those data points are on the Quest Menu Bar but when your charging you may not have the Quest available to check so you can use the app. I love that I can buy and install games directly to my headsets from the app too. There are just so many cool things this app allows you to do. I’ve seen lots of tech and I’m not easily impressed by tech nowadays however the Oculus Quest and this companion app have highly impressed me. I haven’t been wowed like this by tech since I first wrote a program in basic back on a TRS-80 (Trash 80 for those who remember them) in the mid 80’s(I’m old I know). Thanks for an exciting and joyous experience both in the app and on the console.
So many bugs
Fri Aug 04 2023 John HeislerCasting is clunky. Screenshots and videos for games won’t display in landscape view, even though they’re oriented in landscape view. Will get trapped in full screen mode with no way to back out so I just have to close the app entirely (there is an “X” icon but tapping it does nothing). Games purchased by one user not available to the other user. My wife bought the oculus for me (yes I call it oculus because meta is a stupid name) and she bought several games with her profile before giving me the machine. Then I made a profile and bought games, and now we need to switch back and forth between profiles to access the different games bought by each profile. So dumb. Connecting with friends in the oculus is way more clunky than it should be. We always have problems. For example, we’ll both send invites to each other and they don’t come through for either party. Sometimes we’ll join a party and the audio isn’t working, so we have to power off and try connecting again. I never have these problems on my Xbox/PC/PlayStation.
The oculus is super fun and has a ton of potential! It has so many bugs though. I’ve had to factory reset my device twice because of bugs that don’t go away. The most recent time was because the grid (the boundary of the oculus environment) would not go away. Nothing except a factory reset fixed the problem. There have been many other bugs, those are just the ones I can think of off the top of my head.
The best reasons to use this are all broken.
Tue Dec 28 2021 Tamari SimmsThe app is presented to the user in a useful and intuitive way, but lacks execution. Exhibit A; the recently added Mixed Reality Camera (a feature which made me immediately re-download the app). For those who don’t know, this gives the user the capability to record yourself in your surroundings in VR, with augmented-reality capable phones (iPhone 7 Plus and up)*. This feature just doesn’t work. The app in the headset tells me to use the phone and the phone just casts, doesn’t offer anything else where everything should be. Exhibit B; the phone notifications. This feature works maybe 60% of the time and refuses to let me unpair the headset to the phone via Bluetooth when I need to repair it (I CANT DELETE THE HEADSET FROM MY BLUETOOTH), which I need to repair the system if the notification flow to the headset stops. This is a pity as this capability was added a while ago and still hasn’t really been patched. At this point this app just gives your headset a bunch of half-baked capabilities that only work half of the time. Wouldn’t suggest use after you’ve gotten past initial setup of headset.
*in the instructions it says iPhone X and up, but the supposed capability is aligned with the 7 Plus, and has been seen in other instances working as well as the new phones. In short, there’s 0 reason why this shouldn’t LOAD, not that it should work or connect.
Doesn’t Cast Majority of the time
Sat Jan 11 2025 SRH1389We downloaded the app primarily to cast. It worked once for just few mins. Yes both devices are on the same WiFi , we only have WiFi service at home and have full bars…we tried the back up option of Bluetooth both devices pair to only continuously get the error message on the app when trying to actually cast the the headset. We need to cast to help our child understand what to select etc especially the boundaries..not to mention he really wants us to watch him play. So far the meta quest 3 has been a headache. The first one we bought worked for all of 3 days before the screen stayed black other than meta icon…we could hear sound but see nothing (no menus, boxes etc) did a reset still didn’t fix it. The games are not sharing between profiles even though that has been turned on in setting..so we had to download each game to the other profile..and the app for WiFi casting, Bluetooth casting etc are worthless so far. For something so expensive you’d think this headset would work seamlessly with the app created for it…really hope I can come back with a positive review later but as of now we aren’t happy with the app. We should be able to see him play and to help him if he needs it without having to put on the headset to do it for him/him having to exit the games etc.
This app is the Only way to set up an oculus?
Fri Dec 20 2024 Night koCoReO 💜This app is so glitchy, oculus says set up on app, app says connect to WiFi, but when I do it asks me to do it again. I can’t complete setup cause when I get to the last step which is 5 safety notices, there is no button to continue. I have never seen the Home Screen of my oculus, I used the launch from phone button to play for three minutes, then reset the oculus and after setting it up again it still got stuck, and now all I can do is try reinstalling the app. Please meta, let there be a setup button in the oculus! The second star is cause the Beat Saber song “escape” is so cool. Your welcome.
Update: apparently the problem is exclusive to the Samsung galaxy version of the app. Cure = use an iPhone. The 5 safety tips come with a cute video we MUST watch before proceeding, not sure why I HAD to watch it on an iPhone, when I had an oculus connected to WiFi and a galaxy, but the video doesn’t play on those, and until it plays, their screens just say “finish setup” p.s. my galaxy has a little no smoking symbol with no cigarette in the middle, it won’t go away when I restart the phone, and I think it means “I, your galaxy phone, do not feel like talking to the internet much right now.”
Small children are ruining Horizon
Sat Mar 22 2025 TimothytrippI’m all for having content kids love. I’m also for having content teens love, young adults love, and older adults love. What I don’t understand is that by default, almost everywhere you go in Horizon, there are kids screaming at each other, you, and the world in general. It’s like somewhere between being stuck in a Chuck E Cheese birthday party and a McDonalds play area.
Please, Meta, for the love of God, mute people under the age of 18 by default. If you don’t know they’re under 18, why not? Should they even be there without parental consent? Does Zuck ever even try to play the public experience? Because if he did I think he’d put a stop to this. It makes me not want to explore Horizons AT ALL.
On the other hand, the framework is there to make some great worlds and experiences, but the biggest thing you should be offering is virtual shopping and browsing experiences. Make deals with retailers where things you buy in Horizons get a 5% or similarly low fee to Meta, the become the storefront for physical things everything from gaming accessories to clothing, to cars. Combine hi resolution photography and interactive3D models of products, and let us browse and buy right from the showrooms.
Love VR, hate this app
Mon Jan 01 2024 Lillian138This has got to be one of the most excruciatingly frustrating apps I have ever worked with. The casting is extremely laggy, even on my brand new iPhone 12. If I got a dollar for every pixel in the casting video i’d have 2 cents. Not to mention it runs at about 5 fps. At one point, my casting stopped working completely. The entire screen would freeze and I couldn’t even close out of it. I tried rebooting my phone and VR and working with multiple of the provided troubleshooting methods featured on the Oculus website. Nothing worked. Eventually had to delete the app and go through the horridly long and painful login process all over again. A few times it will completely log me off of the headset for no apparent reason, and as a regular VR player this is extremely annoying since the account is under my dad’s facebook, and I don’t have his log in. Since I’m 13, of course he won’t give me his password, but I’ll deal. Sometimes the app refuses to connect with my vr and says its dead even when it isn’t. I can’t say “don’t get this app” since its a necessity for people with an Oculus, but just a fair warning: be prepared to deal with constant bugs and glitches, poor casting performance quality, and unexplainable occurrences.
the most infuriating app
Sun Nov 12 2023 Gabe_1295Anytime I attempt to try to sync up to my quest with the app it almost always fails, there's so many settings that have been removed with radio silence as to why. I've spent the past 30 minutes trying to find how to disable the massive record button when casting to the phone. There used to be something in the settings to remove it but it seems to be completely removed and is nowhere to be found. I've had to reinstall this app and reset my quest numerous times because the app decides to break and doesn't connect to my quest regardless of what I do. This app and the quest are the most mind numbing and infurating pieces of techonolgy I've ever endured. After days of trying to cast to my quest the only way I've managed to is to completely close the app and cast to my phone through the quest and use the popup as any other option fails, trying to cast to my smart tv is the most frustrating thing and won't even pop up after setting ip screen mirroing on it and rechecking every possible reason as to why it wouldn't work multiple times all to no evail. I just want to be able to enjoy my quest without spending 2 hours everytime I want to play it troubleshooting. Please fix the app.
🥴
Thu Dec 12 2024 CamilleEBugThe Meta customer service agents are a bunch of tide pod eating degenerates. Please for the love of God hire people that aren’t wall lickers.
W O R S T experience ever!! Hard pass.
Please be aware that if you purchase a VR for your child once they turn 13 they will lock you out of the account unless they can data harvest your CHILD!!! They want a full copy of a birth certificate and school ID. OR their drivers license and credit card information with their name on it. At 13… literally the robots that work there will repeat the same thing. As the parent, you can’t provide your own ID or banking info. They want to be creepy pedos and get your child’s information that they want to STORE! I’ve repeatedly asked if I could provide a redacted version that only showed the name and date of birth. They refuse! No matter how many accounts you create, within a month they will stalk your child and lock the account until you provide their personal identifying information. It is SO creepy!
Do not waste your money! Luckily our VR broke and we turned it in to be fixed with the extended warranty. Since they couldn’t fix it they gave us our money back. 100% not buying another one. These people are freaking weird!
No customer support at all Headset is completely bricked
Sun Jul 23 2023 Maxim4286I was using my oculus quest 2 headset for around 6 months when out of no where my facebook account, which I created for the sole purpose of using the headset was banned. I tried to get this fixed, but thats when I realized there is literally no way to access customer support. Any option for customer support redirects you to their awful website which just gives you pointless tips on how to fix common issues. I tried calling their “support number” but it just says we no longer provide customer service. Now my oculus is basically just an expensive paper weight since I can’t switch to another account without first logging into my current account. I following some of the pointless customer support tips they provide and factory reset the oculus so that I could at least use it even though I would lose all of the games I bought and even that didn’t work. I emailed every customer support email I could find, but none of them have responded. I feel complete stuck and don’t know how to continue. If I could rate this less stars I would. I really just want to play VR, but this process is just awful.
