Dinsun Review
I respect the 'offline' tag. In an era where every game wants to be a live service, a standalone RPG is a breath of fresh air. However, 'offline' isn't a substitute for quality. Monster Slayer is a functional hack-and-slash, but it feels like it’s about ten years too late. The combat is fine, but it lacks the 'crunch' and impact of something like Diablo or even Titan Quest. You swing, the enemy's HP goes down, and they die in a cloud of generic particles.
The loot system is unimaginative. You get a sword, then a sword+1. There are no interesting stat combinations or unique legendary effects that change how you play. It’s a very conservative design, which I usually appreciate, but here it just feels dated. It’s great for a long flight where you don't have Wi-Fi, but once you're back on land, you'll probably forget it exists. A solid, middle-of-the-road effort.
