Nickel Nickel is a clever, minimalist puzzle game that feels like a cross between '2048' and a traditional match-3. The goal is to combine coins to reach higher denominations, requiring a good amount of forward-thinking and spatial planning. Its clean, coin-themed aesthetic is easy on the eyes and the sound of clinking coins provides a very satisfying auditory feedback loop.
I found the difficulty curve to be well-balanced—it starts off simple enough to learn the mechanics, but the board quickly fills up, forcing you to prioritize which coins to merge. It’s a great 'coffee break' game that provides a meaningful mental challenge without being stressful. If you enjoy puzzle games that focus on numbers and organization, Nickel Nickel is a solid addition to your collection.

Nickel Nickel is a fun 4-player rummy game in which the wild card changes each round, from 3 to 13. First round, 3 cards are dealt, and 3s and Jokers are wild. Next round, 4 cards are dealt, and 4s and Jokers are wild. Each subsequent hand, an extra card is dealt and the next sequential card is wild. You play against the robots trying to make sets of 3 or runs of 3 in a single suit.
On your turn, draw a card from the face-down draw pile or the face-up discard pile. If you have wild cards, position your wilds in your hand to make sets. Discard a card you don't need (and that the next player doesn't want). When one of the players can make sets of all their cards, they show their hand. The next 3 players have exactly one more turn to make sets, and any unplayable cards count as points against them. After the 13s round, the player with the lowest score wins the game!

Try to build your merges in a corner. This keeps the center of the board open for new, low-value coins and prevents you from getting blocked by high-value denominations that are hard to move.

Place a coin so that it triggers a merge, which then lands next to another coin of the same new value. These chain reactions clear the board faster and provide massive score bonuses.
The game continues as long as you can make merges, with the goal being to reach the elusive 'Nickel' and beyond.
