Night Racer doesn't pretend to be anything it isn't. It’s a simple game about not crashing. In an era of loot boxes and 100GB open worlds, there’s a certain dignity in that. On the Apple Watch, it’s actually a clever use of the Digital Crown for steering—a perfect little time-waster for when you're stuck in a queue.
However, on a phone, it’s painfully basic. The graphics are primitive, and the gameplay loop is about as deep as a puddle. The 'grayscale' mode is a nice nod to the GameBoy era, but it can’t hide the lack of content. It’s worth the couple of bucks for the watch version if you're a commuter, but don't expect it to hold your interest for more than ten minutes at a time. It’s a specialized tool for a specific niche.
