I was skeptical about the art style—it’s very bright and Saturday-morning-cartoonish—but the strategy underneath is legit. Nova Island manages to avoid the 'net-decking' problem that plagues bigger games by keeping the card pool manageable and focusing on board positioning. I especially appreciate the developer's stance against pay-to-win; you earn your way up, which is how it should be.
That said, the player base is smaller than Hearthstone or Marvel Snap, so matchmaking can sometimes feel uneven. The mechanics are easy to grasp but have a decent ceiling. It’s a solid 'second' game to have on your phone when you're tired of the mainstream grind, but it didn't completely hook me. It lacks that 'just one more match' grit that I usually look for.
