Power Spikes II is a fascinating artifact of 90s arcade design, blending traditional volleyball with a futuristic 'hyper' aesthetic. This isn't a slow, tactical sports sim; it’s a high-speed, over-the-top action game where players have special serves and spikes that look like they could level a building. The ACA NEOGEO port is excellent, providing the perfect frame rate and input response needed for such a timing-sensitive game.

The variety of teams is decent, including both realistic national teams and the 'Hyper' league teams that feature armored players and sci-fi abilities. The learning curve is surprisingly steep, as the timing for the perfect spike or block is very narrow. However, once you find the rhythm, it's incredibly satisfying.
