Pitch is a card game with deep roots in North American culture, but it's often overlooked by app developers. This version (often called Setback) is a very competent digital conversion. The AI is the standout feature here; it understands the nuance of bidding and knows when to 'smear' points for a partner. The interface is simple, but in a way that respects the tradition of the game.
The game runs incredibly smoothly, with no lag between tricks, which is essential for a game that usually moves quickly at a real table. I would have liked to see more options for different variants (like 10-point Pitch), but the 4-point and 6-point versions included are implemented perfectly. It’s a great way to keep your skills sharp when you can't get four people together in person.
Pitch is a fine game if you're at a bar with friends and a physical deck. Digitally? This version is an eyesore. The AI is predictably erratic—sometimes playing like a genius, other times throwing the game for no reason. For a game built on bidding and strategy, the lack of a competent computer opponent is a death sentence.
I’ve played better versions of this on Windows 95 shareware discs. The interface is clunky, and the 'customization' options are buried under layers of unintuitive menus. If you’re a die-hard fan of Pitch and have no one to play with, maybe you'll tolerate this. For everyone else, it’s a pass. It’s too conservative for its own good, clinging to an aesthetic that should have died twenty years ago.

The Jack of Trumps is a valuable point. If you have it but aren't the lead, try to save it for a trick where you are certain you can win it, or wait for your partner to lead a high trump.
Players bid from 2 to 4 (or more in some versions) for the chance to name the trump suit. The goal is to take enough points to meet your bid.
The game supports both 4-point and 6-point variations in the settings menu.
