Pixel Monk is a masterclass in 'meditative action.' It’s a stylish 2D platformer that prioritizes rhythm and fluid movement over frantic combat. You play as a lone monk navigating a pixel-art world that feels inspired by traditional Asian landscapes. The core mechanic is a 'teleport-dash' that feels incredibly satisfying to execute; it’s a game about finding the 'flow state' as you weave through dangerous environments with grace.
The music and sound design are the soul of the game, providing a lo-fi, chill-hop atmosphere that perfectly complements the visuals. While the levels can be challenging, the generous checkpoint system ensures that the experience remains relaxing rather than frustrating. It is a quiet, beautiful, and deeply polished indie title that is perfect for anyone looking to escape into a peaceful digital world. It’s less of a game and more of a playable piece of art.
I love pixel art, I really do. It takes me back to the SNES days. But Pixel Monk forgets that those old games were hard because they were well-designed, not just because they had bad hitboxes. The difficulty here feels artificial. You'll miss a jump not because your timing was off, but because the monk's feet don't seem to touch the ground where the pixels say they should.
It’s a very bare-bones experience. There’s no real story to speak of—just go right until you hit a flag—and the level tropes are as generic as they come: forest level, lava level, ice level. We’ve been doing this since 1985. If you’re going to make a retro platformer in 2024, you need a hook. Pixel art isn't a hook anymore; it's a baseline. It's not a broken game, but it's certainly not an inspired one.
Performance: Very lightweight; will run on almost any iOS device.
Buy if: You have a high tolerance for punishing platformers and love the 8-bit look.
Skip if: You want polished mechanics or a sense of progression beyond just completing levels.
Available on: iPhone, iPad, iPod

Pray for the World. Feed the Ducks.
You play as an Orthodox Christian monastic who has gone to their favorite lakeside to pray and feed the ducks. With prayer rope in hand and pocket full of peas (bread is bad for their digestion), humbly quiet your heart while caring for the least of God's creatures.
Pixel Monk is a casual game about acquiring a peaceful spirit: an experience players can enjoy through interactive background elements and ambient sounds. The game features two leisurely actions: Pray, and Feed the Ducks, both of which interact with the environment in different ways. Players can also mix a variety of calming sounds, toggle daytime and weather, and cycle through inspirational quotes from the Bible and Orthodox Saints.
In Pixel Monk you can choose between:
* Male or Female Monastic (with option for Angelic Schema robe)
* 10 Classical Piano songs
* 5 Mixable Ambient Sounds: Ducks, Wind, Rain, Frogs, Crickets
* 4 Orthodox Christian Icons: Christ, Theotokos, Venerable Monk, Holy Virgin
* 50+ quotes from Holy Scripture and Orthodox Saints
* Launch the game during Orthodox feast days (Old or New Calendar) to find special Icons and background items.
Pixel Monk is ultimately an experience, aimed at inspiring that same experience in the real world. In the hustle and bustle of life we may not always get to retreat to our favorite place to find peace, but we hope that Pixel Monk can bring players a small part of that peace until then.

Stress-free, meditative gameplay
Don't rush the jumps. Wait for the 'Spirit Ring' to pulse around your character before dashing. This ensures you have maximum distance and provides a brief moment of invincibility, allowing you to pass through spikes safely.
Every level contains three hidden Cherry Petals. Collecting these isn't required for progress, but they are used to unlock 'Stance' upgrades that change the visual effects of your movement, making your monk truly unique.
Pixel Monk focuses on movement and evasion rather than traditional combat, though you will have to outmaneuver elemental spirits in later stages.
