As a 40-year-old gamer, I find the modern trend of 'subscription-as-a-service' for children's apps particularly grating. PlayKids is essentially a revolving door of content. Sure, there’s a lot here—thousands of videos and 'games'—but most of the interactive elements are shallow at best. They aren't 'games' in the sense we grew up with; they are Skinner boxes designed to keep a toddler's attention for three minutes while a video buffers.

The educational value is debatable. It’s more of a digital babysitter than a teacher. While I appreciate the safety features and the lack of third-party ads, the cost of entry is high for what is essentially a curated YouTube Kids. I’d rather buy a single, well-crafted premium game for a child than pay a monthly fee for this ocean of mediocrity.
