I'm not a fan of annual releases without big changes, so I've moved away from a yearly release cycle. To make this make sense, I've renamed Pocket GM 21 to Pocket GM 2. This is then more obviously the prequel to the latest version - recently released as Pocket GM 3.
Icon and game graphics updated to align to name change.

I sink hours into this game and my grades are dropping but I don’t care. This used to be my backup to Madden Franchise mode, but now I play it even more for a few reasons. I like that there’s no limit to how long a franchise can run. I like how simple it is. However there’s a few things I’d like to see implemented. More customization would be cool, like some sort of god mode where you could edit and create players, no salary cap, etc. Also showing players numbers, and being able to change that would be cool as well. Also, I think when “playing” a game, it would be nice to be able to sub out a player, like if a QB is not performing well, they would be able to be benched in favor of another QB. Overall, fantastic game!!!! Even without these things, it’s still my favorite app on my phone. Keep it up! EDIT: An option for dark mode would also be a great addition. EDIT 2: I think a reworked accolade system would be cool. It’s a little vague right now, just listing how many of each award a player has. Instead, maybe a list of how many times the player has won mvp for example, and the years they’ve done so. Additionally, I think super bowl MVP and conference player of the week should both be listed under a player’s list of accolades.
There are a lot of things to like about this game. The ability to rebuild the team to your liking, focusing on one style of play for both offense and defense or having a variety. The interface showing more of the players specific stats is incredibly useful for building a well rounded team. My biggest issue is, cap makes absolutely no sense. AI controlled teams are constantly over the cap, making trading with them impossible unless I eat salaries. It also makes no sense that trying to trade a QB being paid $28 million would bring my available cap room from $7.9 million, to $900k. Getting rid of a highly paid player frees up cap space, not eats into it. CPU teams are allowed to stay powerhouses, because cap doesn’t truly exist for them. That being said, it is still a good game. My only other issue is how unrealistic owner expectations are. If you win the championship once, you are expected to win it the next year, even if players are aging out or contracts are expiring (and you will have to let some of your players go for them to inevitably be signed by a team already over their cap). If ownership expectations were built around your roster overall, or even if you could pick between a few goals (with a reward of some sort for picking and completing more challenging ones), I feel the system would be more robust and realistic. All that being said, an update fixing cap issues would easily push this rating form a 4 to a 5!
So let me start by saying I love this game. The amount of time I spend playing this game is insane. Just this past week, I checked my screen time and I played for over 10 hours in a week. Before this game I always playing retro bowl, then finally decided the spend the 2 dollars and get this game and turned out to be worth it. Anywayyy thoo, I got a concept that should be taken into consideration. To be able to switch up your roster while a game is active. So for example, you have an aging quarterback who had a decent season and is taking you to the playoffs. But you also have a young rookie that you wanna develop, instead of having the rookie start the whole game, let your veteran qb gain the lead and about 3rd or 4th quarter put your rookie to help speed up his development for when he takes over the starting job. Also adding different character styles. Other than that, this game is phenomenal as it is my favorite football game, lowkey better than madden.
I love this game just have one small issue. I think that everything about this game is very good except I don’t like how I feel like every player under about an 80 overall has terrible stats in every category. I feel like to make it more realistic these player might have terrible stats except maybe in one category they might have a really good stat. For example there could be a QB who is a 71 overall and has bad throwing stats yet maybe in the speed category he has about a 90. Right now that is not possible and I feel like it would be a good addition to make it more realistic. This would also make players more versatile when it comes to switching positions. While I’m on the topic of changes another small but helpful feature would be a way to tell you what the best scheme for your team would be in order to better suit your players. One more small problem I have is with the draft. I am never able to get good players in rounds 4-7 of the draft yet I feel every player I draft in the first two or so rounds becomes like a 90 overall soon. Maybe if there was a system of boom or busts it would really help to improve the game and make later picks not feel useless and early picks not feel so overpowered. Thank you for you time. Hope you have a good day.
I know you want to make the game all realistic and stuff but the salary cap is ridiculous. I can’t go one or 2 seasons without losing one of my star players or missing out on the opportunity to get a star player yes I know you want it aligned with real life things but you can’t expect people to keep playing the game if we keep getting cheesed with salary cap I’ve seen multiple complaints online about it also and if I don’t like a game I usually delete it and don’t leave a review but I love this game and it’s the best GM game I’ve played but the salary cap is what’s killing it. We’re spending hard earned money to play your game the least you can do is listen to us. Just like how you did with Injuries can you PLEASE give us an option to take off salary cap so some people can play it the irl way and some people can play the fun way cause as of right now this salary cap problem is crazy and I played Pocket GM 20 and deleted it cause of the salary cap and bought 21 hoping I wouldn’t have that problem 5 days pass of me letting it slide but I just lost my 92 linebacker 88 safety and missed an opportunity for a 84 receiver and that isn’t right to be honest.
I have played a lot of sport team manager games, and for a NFL game, this is the best one. It has real team rosters, pretty good draft mechanics even thou I enjoyed the grading system better before the last update. Now it really killed the value of picks and players that are 79 and below, but it doesn’t ruin the game. The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is the fact that the pc controlled teams don’t have to stay inside the salary cap. If at the beginning of the season you are past the salary cap, a box pops up telling you have to make cuts or allow the game to make them for you. The game controlled team keep there beat players until they retire mostly because they get to go over the cap, and it’s frustrating when you go to make a trade for picks, and you can’t because the computer controlled team is over the cap. I think this a issue that needs to be addressed before anything else is in the game, and then it would be a 5 star game to me.
This is the best GM game out there. It’s simple enough where anyone can pick up and play, yet challenging enough where GM game veterans will feel challenged enough to keep coming back. I don’t need to set ticket prices, purchase stadium upgrades, and spend points on training players or coaches. Just give me a straight up football managing sim, and this one delivers on that. It gets rid of a lot of the fluff you find in other GM games. Downloadable custom rosters are available via the community, and you can build your favorite franchise how you see fit. Some of the achievements are bugged, but whatever, it’s definitely not game breaking. I have tried numerous other GM type games and I keep coming back to this series. Bravo.
Updated review: I can trade! Dev responded quickly to answer my problem. The trade menu is a bit unintuitive to find at first, but easy to navigate to I've you do find. The game itself is excellent, especially dealing with draft picks over and under performing. My only wish is the option to sim more than one game at a time. Maybe add Sim 1 Month, Sim to Trade Deadline and Sim season. Thanks Dev, the game is great fun! ——— I was really excited to play this game, non-soccer sports management sims are an extremely large hole in the mobile game market. Big but coming! This game starts you out with a message from the owner saying you have full control and then don’t let you trade. It’s incredibly frustrating. There is a trade tab that leads you to an empty trade block area. There is no way to put players on the trade block and there is no way to initiate trades or offers. What’s the point of a sports management sim without trades? It seems like this is a very smaller Dev team, if not just one person. I would love to support a small Dev working in an under represented game genre that I love and is perfect for mobile gaming. But I just can’t recommend this game unless you just want to watch and incredibly slow American football season simulator that greatly limits the actually management parts. No refund needed, but I can’t play this game as is. Here’s hoping for an actual management sim down the line!
This is a great game and there are many reviews praising this game (which it deserves) but I will be talking about the issues that I so badly want fixed! First off, injuries are way too common and they need to be nerfed or at least let us turn them off. Secondly(and most important to me), the cap space seems to be broken, especially in the beginning and throughout the offseason. There should be a way to turn this on and off as well. Personally, I’m 30 million in debt, so I want to trade away my quarterback who makes up 26 million of the cap, I find a team who has 28 million in open space, so I trade him for like 6 picks, and it says insufficient cap space or whatever the error screen for the cap space is. What? No, they have the cap and I’m trying to get rid of money, there is no cap error in that trade, it’s a logically sound trade. Those are the main issues of the game, but don’t get me wrong, it’s still a good game, but these are game breaking, please fix these issues!
First of all the game is amazing. I think I’ve left maybe one or two reviews for games and this one is well deserved and it’s an easy five stars. There are a few feature ideas that I think should be implemented, but they in no way make the game any less enjoyable. I’d like to see a better tracking method of transactions for instance trades that occurred on the players page similar to baseball reference or football reference (the websites) as an example. Just so I can know who I traded player x for in 2022 if I’m in 2034 to keep track of my teams history. It would also be nice to have a team history, and a league history, that showed the teams that won the Champions Bowl (like their roster at the time) and to be able to search for former stars to see where they ended up or how close to the hall of fame they were. Those, I believe, are my only two comments however. Essentially the hope is to include more frivolities in terms of league history/decorations and that sort of thing. The gameplay itself is fantastic however and I’m in 2042 and there’s no signs of slowing down. Buy this game.
