What's impressive is that you don't actually need to be a poker expert to enjoy it—the game provides a handy guide for hand rankings. However, for those who do know their way around a deck, the strategic depth comes from planning several moves ahead to set up high-scoring flushes and full houses. It's an elegant, well-designed mobile game.

Dinsun here. I like it when developers try to mash genres together, and Poker Pop is a decent attempt. Using poker hands as the 'match' criteria in a grid puzzle is smart—it requires more brainpower than just matching three colors. It feels like a mix of Tetris and Solitaire, which works well for a commute.

The problem is the longevity. Once you understand the optimal way to arrange tiles, the game becomes a bit rote. There aren't enough varied modes or 'boss' challenges to keep a conservative gamer like me coming back for weeks. It’s a good 'filler' game, but it doesn't have the staying power of a true classic. It’s smart, but it’s small.
