Ponchorado is a rare gem that successfully marries the aesthetic of a Sergio Leone film with the addictive precision of a rhythm game. The tension in each duel is palpable; standing in the dusty street, waiting for the beat to drop so you can outdraw your opponent, creates a level of immersion I didn't expect from a mobile title. The hand-drawn art style is dripping with character, making every outlaw you face feel like a unique threat rather than just another target.

Mechanically, it's brilliant. It doesn't just ask you to tap to the beat; it asks you to 'feel' the showdown. The way the music swells as your Grit meter fills is a masterclass in audio-visual feedback. Some of the later bosses have incredibly tricky rhythm patterns that will test even veteran rhythm gamers, but the sense of accomplishment when you finally land that killing shot at high noon is second to none. It’s stylish, challenging, and perfectly tuned.

I love the Western aesthetic, and Ponchorado nails the 'dust and leather' vibe. The gunplay is tight—the top-down perspective works well for the cover-based shooting they’ve implemented. It feels like a simplified mobile version of 'Desperados.'

However, the mission variety is lacking. Every stage feels like the same three encounters rearranged. You hide behind a barrel, wait for the reload, and shoot. Rinse and repeat. There’s no real 'character' to the enemies or the world outside of the poncho gimmick. It’s a good foundation, but it needs a lot more content to justify being more than a afternoon's diversion. A bit too conservative with its ambition for me.

Ponchorado is a satirical Wild West survival-action game with roguelite elements, set in the 1930s cartoon style — taking place in the ruins of a never-finished western movie. Play as Poncho, a forgotten stuntman fighting his way through chaos, clichés, and caricatures in a desperate attempt to finally be seen — and maybe even win the BOSSCAR, the highest honor of the fictional Academy of Cinematic Constructs.
But the prize is more than just a symbol of fame — it represents visibility, recognition, and the right to tell your own story.
As Poncho, a never-credited side character, you’ll battle your way through a fragmented film world full of bizarre gatekeepers, lost scenes, and unleashed characters — all fighting for their place in a movie that was never finished.
Your goal: Defeat all ten “Gatekeeper Bosses” to nominate yourself for the BOSSCAR — and maybe, at last, rise from forgotten extra to true leading role.
