REKT! tries to capture that old-school score-chasing magic on mobile, and to its credit, the handling has a snappy arcade feel once you get the hang of it. Tossing your car into mid-air spins and chaining drifts feels satisfying for about twenty minutes. But at 40 years old, my tolerance for games that rely entirely on chasing high scores in identical arenas wears thin very quickly. There is no substantial campaign or world to explore—just repetition for numbers on a leaderboard.
The retro aesthetics are clean enough, and the performance is smooth, but it lacks the staying power of true arcade classics. It treats your time like a quick distraction rather than an engaging experience. If you enjoy mindlessly grinding for high scores during a coffee break, you might get a few afternoons out of it, but seasoned gamers will likely grow bored of the loop long before mastering every trick.
