Now this is more like it. Soccer Brawl isn't interested in 'realism' or licensing deals—it’s about cybernetic players kicking a ball so hard it catches fire. The porting work by Hamster is, as usual, excellent. It’s a 1:1 recreation of the arcade board. Playing this takes me back to the smoky arcades of my youth. It’s hard, sometimes unfair, and the controls take a minute to click on a touchscreen, but it has character. The sprite work is fantastic and full of 90s attitude. My only real complaint is that arcade games were designed to eat quarters, so the difficulty can be frustrating if you don't use save states. It’s a niche product for sure, but for those of us who appreciate arcade history, it’s a welcome addition to the phone.
