Dinsun Review
I spent a small fortune in quarters on the original Super Sidekicks back in the 90s, so playing this on a phone is a surreal experience. The core game is exactly as I remember it: aggressive, fast, and completely unrealistic in the best way possible. It’s soccer through an arcade lens, where a well-timed slide tackle feels like a finishing move. The pixel art still holds up beautifully, and the sound effects are as crunchy as ever.
The problem, as always with these ports, is the controls. Playing an arcade game that requires precision timing on a glass screen is an exercise in frustration. SNK has provided plenty of customization options, but nothing beats a real joystick. It’s also quite difficult—the arcade logic of 'trying to take your money' is still very much in the DNA. It’s a great piece of history, and I appreciate the quick save feature, but without a dedicated Bluetooth controller, you’re playing at a significant disadvantage.
