Screw Rescue Master is the kind of game that looks simple in screenshots but reveals itself to be a deeply complex mechanical puzzle. The core loop of unscrewing metal plates to let them fall according to physics is immensely satisfying. There's a tangible 'clink' and 'thud' with every move that makes the puzzles feel physical. It’s like a digital version of those metal 'disentanglement' puzzles you find in gift shops.

The game does a great job of introducing new constraints—like frozen screws that need to be tapped twice or linked plates that must fall in a specific sequence. It’s perfect for 'one-handed' play, making it a great choice for a commute. While the ads can be a bit frequent, the actual puzzle design is high-quality enough that you'll find yourself pushing through to see how the next mechanical contraption is solved.

I’ve seen the ads for these 'pin' games for years, and the reality is always the same. Screw Rescue Master is a low-effort attempt to capitalize on a trend. The physics are wonky—sometimes a plate falls correctly, sometimes it clips through a pin because the collision detection is lazy. The 'rescue' part is a thin veneer to give some semblance of a goal, but there’s zero emotional investment.

Like most of its peers, the game is bloated with interstitial ads that last longer than the actual levels. By the time you reach level 20, you’ve basically seen everything the game has to offer. It’s the definition of 'shovelware.' For someone who remembers when games had to be good to get published, seeing this at the top of the charts is disheartening. It’s a waste of potential and a waste of time.
