I’ll admit, the older I get, the harder it is for me to keep up with these high-speed 'bullet hell' rhythm games. Shape Rhythm is a sensory overload in the most literal sense. It’s clearly taking a lot of cues from Just Shapes & Beats, and it does a decent job of replicating that frantic energy. The way the obstacles move with the bass is well-synced, and when you’re in the flow, it feels great. But let’s be clear: this isn't a game for someone looking for a relaxing time. It’s loud, it’s bright, and it’s punishingly difficult in the later stages.
My main gripe is that it feels a bit like a tribute act rather than its own thing. It’s very good at what it does, but what it does has been done better elsewhere. The co-op is a nice addition, though it can make the screen even more chaotic than it already is. If you have the reflexes of a teenager and a high tolerance for flashing neon lights, you’ll have a blast. For me, it’s a solid 20-minute experience before I need to lie down in a dark room and rest my eyes. It’s mechanically sound, just a bit unoriginal.
