I’ve been playing artillery games since the days of Scorched Earth, and ShellShock Live feels like a double-edged sword. On one hand, the sheer variety of weapons is impressive, but on the other, the progression feels like a chore designed to keep you on a treadmill rather than rewarding genuine skill. The physics are predictable, which is good for a competitive game, but the visual style is incredibly dated and lacks any real character. It’s the kind of game you play while listening to a podcast because the core loop isn't engaging enough to demand your full attention. The multiplayer is functional, but the community can be hit or miss, and the grind to get the actually interesting weapons takes far too long for a grown man with a job. It’s fine for a few rounds, but it lacks the soul of the classics it tries to emulate.
