Dinsun Review

The Sky Gamblers series has historically provided some of the most technically competent flight simulators on iOS, but 'Races' strips away the combat to focus entirely on checkpoint navigation. The result is a mixed bag. Visually, the game is quite striking, maintaining a smooth framerate while rendering detailed aircraft models and sprawling environments. The tilt controls utilizing the gyroscope are responsive, simulating the feeling of banking a plane with acceptable accuracy for a mobile device.

However, stripping away the dogfighting exposes the simplicity of the flight model. Without the tension of enemy lock-ons or the tactical management of altitude and speed during combat, flying through floating hoops quickly becomes a sterile exercise. It leans heavily into arcade physics, meaning energy management and stall characteristics—staples of true flight sims—are completely ignored here. It is functional and briefly entertaining, but it fails to capture the competitive depth required to sustain a long-term player base. It is a competent tech demo, not a compelling game.
