The 7th Guest: Remastered in IOS

Our Site Score

85/100

As a fan of the original 1993 FMV classic, I was skeptical about how well the spooky atmosphere of Stauf's mansion would translate to mobile. Thankfully, the Remastered edition is the definitive way to play. The upgraded video quality makes the ghostly apparitions actually look like spirits rather than a mess of pixels, and the touch controls for the puzzles feel more natural than a mouse ever did.

The 7th Guest is famous for its difficulty—some of these puzzles are legendary 'brain-burners'—but the new hint system makes the experience much more digestible for a modern audience. The story remains as campy and macabre as ever, and the soundtrack still gives me chills. If you like gothic horror and logic puzzles, this is an essential piece of gaming history.

I remember when this was the peak of technology. Seeing it on a phone is a bit surreal. The puzzles are still devious—some might say unfairly so—and the FMV acting is as cheesy as a Wisconsin dairy farm. The atmosphere still holds up, but modern gamers will likely find the navigation clunky and the 'spookiness' a bit dated. It’s a classic for a reason, but that doesn't mean it’s perfect. It’s a museum piece you can interact with. Respectable, but flawed.
