Match-3 is a tired genre, but Montezuma 3 is at least competent. It’s very fast—too fast for me sometimes—but the feedback loop is satisfying. The totems add a layer of strategy that Bejeweled lacks. However, it's incredibly loud and flashy; it feels like a slot machine having a seizure. If you want a distraction that doesn't ask for your credit card every five minutes, this is a solid choice. It's old-school casual in the best way.

Each totem has a different power, such as clearing a row or adding extra time. To activate a totem, you must make two consecutive matches of the same color as the totem. Mastering this is the key to achieving high scores.
