Look, I’ve played nearly every Kairosoft title released in the last decade, and Tropical Resort Story is exactly what you expect—for better or worse. It’s a competent management sim that tasks you with turning a patch of sand into a tourist trap. The mechanics are sound; balancing facility placement and environmental upgrades provides a decent enough distraction for a few hours. However, as a 40-year-old gamer who remembers when simulation games actually demanded rigorous optimization, this feels like it's on autopilot.
The pixel art remains charming, but the 'rinse and repeat' nature of the gameplay loop is starting to show its age. It’s far too easy to stumble into success, and the lack of genuine failure states makes the late-game feel like a chore of clicking through menus rather than managing a business. It’s a safe, conservative entry that refuses to take risks. It’s not a bad way to kill time on a flight, but don't expect it to challenge your intellect or offer anything you haven't seen in their previous 'Story' titles. It’s fine, but 'fine' doesn't earn a high score from me.
