Finally, something that actually feels like a game and not a storefront. VoltHopper is lean. It doesn't waste your time with fluff or 'story.' You jump, you die, you learn. The mechanics are tight—if you fail, it’s usually your fault, not the game's. It reminds me of the old coin-op days where the only progression was your own skill level.
That said, the minimalist look is starting to feel like an excuse for a low budget. We've seen this 'neon on black' style a thousand times. While the gameplay is solid, it lacks that 'one more turn' hook that the truly great arcade titles had. It’s a bit too cold, too clinical. It’s good for a challenge, but I wouldn't call it memorable.
