Wizard's Quest is a charming throwback to the era of classic grid-based tactical RPGs. It doesn't try to reinvent the wheel; instead, it polishes the 'hero's journey' into a very digestible mobile format. The spell system is the highlight, offering a variety of elemental interactions that require genuine thought regarding positioning and mana management.
The art style is clean and evocative, though the story is fairly standard fantasy fare. What kept me engaged was the steady sense of progression—unlocking new gear and upgrading your wizard's tower feels impactful. It’s a great 'coffee break' RPG for fans who want tactical depth without having to commit to a 100-hour epic. The difficulty spikes can be a bit sharp, but they usually just require a slight tweak in your spell loadout rather than endless grinding.
I grew up on these kinds of games, so I have a high tolerance for pixelated graphics and cryptic puzzles. However, Wizard's Quest feels less like a tribute and more like a missed opportunity. The movement is stiff, and the combat lacks the strategic depth required to keep a 40-year-old gamer engaged for more than an hour. It tries so hard to be 'retro' that it forgets to include modern design philosophies that make games actually playable today.
The progression is linear and predictable. You go to a town, get a quest, kill some bats, and repeat. There's nothing here that I haven't seen done better in Dragon Quest or Final Fantasy thirty years ago. It's fine for a short distraction on a commute, but don't expect it to leave a lasting impression. It's mediocre fantasy filler.
Performance: Runs smoothly; some UI elements are a bit too small for phone screens.
Buy if: You have an undying love for 8-bit RPGs and just want something simple to pass the time.

Wizard's Quest is a turn-based tactical adventure where players take control of a powerful mage exploring a fallen kingdom. Master a variety of spells, recruit allies, and engage in strategic combat across diverse environments. With a deep upgrade system and challenging boss encounters, it offers a classic RPG experience tailored for mobile play.
Strategic turn-based combat
Deep elemental spell system
Challenging puzzles and hidden secrets
Loot and equipment customization
Use 'Rain' spells to wet enemies before hitting them with 'Lightning.' This causes a chain reaction that deals massive bonus damage to groups of monsters.
Don't use your high-level spells on basic minions. Stick to 'Firebolt' or basic staff attacks for trash mobs to ensure you have full mana for the floor boss.
The standard game is focused on progression, but a 'Hardcore' mode can be unlocked after the first completion.
