Zotz is an abstract puzzle game that feels like it belongs in an art gallery. The gameplay is minimalist: you interact with shapes and symbols to trigger reactions and clear levels. It’s very much an experimental title—it doesn't give you much direction, which is part of its charm.
The sound design is atmospheric and helps create a 'zen' state while you play. While it might be too abstract for some, those who enjoy puzzle games like 'Knytt' or 'Zen Bound' will find a lot to like in its mysterious, understated presentation.
Zotz is a game for people who think they’re smarter than everyone else. It’s dense, obtuse, and refuses to explain itself. Once you finally grasp the rules—which took me longer than I care to admit—there’s a rewarding strategy game here. It feels like playing a lost artifact from a forgotten civilization, which is cool in concept.
But as a piece of software, it’s a struggle. The UI is cryptic, the tutorial is useless, and the lack of any 'undo' button makes the later levels infuriating. It’s the kind of game that demands your full attention but doesn't quite give enough back in terms of satisfaction. It’s an interesting experiment in abstract design, but it’s too cold and detached to be a favorite. It’s academic, not enjoyable.
Performance: Very stable; very low battery usage.

Version 2.0Sat Oct 11 2025
Completely rewritten from scratch for iOS 26. Some interface improvements. App is now free.
Zotz! is an enjoyable time-waster, a form of perceptual practice, good for training the brain and the eyes; there is no timer and no score, no pressure, just a simple challenge waiting for you whenever you like.
The game supposes a deck of cards, where each card has four attributes, and each attribute on any given card has one of three possible values: Number (one, two, or three), Color (red, blue, or green), Fill (solid, hazy, or empty), and Shape (diamond, oval, or rectangle).
All you have to do is to spot, amongst the visible cards, any three cards which, for each attribute, are either all identical or all different.
Colors, middle fill type, and number of cards in the layout can all be customized. Full instructions, with examples, are included.

Zotz is an atmospheric puzzle game that emphasizes discovery and intuition. With no explicit instructions, players must experiment with the environment to understand the rules of this abstract world. Featuring a unique visual style and an immersive soundscape, it's a relaxing yet challenging experience for fans of indie puzzle games.
Unique, minimalist art direction
Ambient, immersive soundtrack
No-pressure gameplay with no timers
Challenging logic puzzles that defy tradition
In Zotz, every visual change is a clue. If a shape glows when you touch it, look for other shapes that mirror that glow. Success comes from understanding the patterns of the world rather than just fast reflexes.
Use taps and drags to move elements. Some levels require you to hold multiple points at once to 'activate' a sequence, so be prepared to use both hands!
The goal is to discover the underlying logic of each level to clear the symbols and progress deeper into the abstract world.
