Al-Dama Al-Kuwaitiya is a fantastic digital preservation of a traditional cultural pastime. For those unfamiliar, Kuwaiti Dama is a variant of draughts (checkers) that requires a completely different strategic mindset compared to the Western version. The pieces move and capture differently, emphasizing forward momentum and aggressive positioning.

This app does a great job of bringing that experience to mobile with clean boards and a capable AI. While it doesn't have the flashy graphics of modern AAA games, it provides an authentic and challenging board game experience. I respect the intent to preserve a traditional game like Kuwaiti Dama. However, as a software product, this app is stuck in the past. The interface is rudimentary at best, and the lack of any sort of tutorial or rulebook for those unfamiliar with the 'Kuwaiti' variation is a major oversight.

If you already know how to play, it’s a functional way to carry the board in your pocket. But for anyone else, there’s nothing here to pull you in. The AI is basic, and the online community seems non-existent. It serves its specific niche, but as a general piece of entertainment, it fails to meet the standard. It's a digital archive, not a compelling game.

Rules of the Game

Pieces move forward and sideways, but never backward. Capturing is mandatory. When a piece reaches the opponent's back row, it becomes a 'Dama' with the ability to move any number of squares in any direction.
