iFishing Saltwater Edition is a surprisingly deep fishing simulator. It’s not just about tapping a button; you actually have to use the boat to find the fish using the fish finder, choose the right lure for the species, and then fight the fish using the iPhone's accelerometer.
The ocean maps are much larger than the original game's lakes, which adds a real sense of exploration. The fish AI is impressive—different species have different habits and preferred structures like reefs or drop-offs. It’s a relaxing yet challenging experience that really rewards your patience and knowledge of angling. The ocean sounds and day/night cycle create a great atmosphere for a long session.
I appreciate a game that respects the hobby it's simulating. iFishing isn't just about tapping the screen; it actually makes you think about lure choice and location. Being able to drive the boat around the lake (or ocean, in this case) adds a layer of agency that most fishing games lack. The tension of the line during a fight is well-conveyed through the haptic feedback and visuals.
However, the user interface is a mess. It’s cluttered with tiny icons and text that haven't been properly updated for modern high-resolution screens. It feels cramped. Also, the graphics are a mixed bag—the fish look okay, but the environments are flat and repetitive. It’s a solid sim for enthusiasts, but the barrier of entry is a bit high due to the clunky controls and dated look. It’s functional and deep, but it’s far from pretty.
Performance: UI is slow to respond occasionally; gameplay is smooth.
Buy if: You are a real-life fishing fan who wants a portable sim with actual depth.
Skip if: You want a simple 'tap to catch' arcade game or high-end visuals.

-To anyone that says they can't find fish, drive your boat north until you reach deeper water, then drive east or west to look for cover. Smaller fish will stay around weeds, logs, or rocks while bigger fish will randomly cruise around in the deep open areas. The ocean is a lot bigger than the lakes in the original game and requires more exploration. Good luck!

Once a fish bites, tilt the device to keep tension on the line and use the on-screen reel to bring it in. Don't pull too hard or the line will snap!
Bigger fish tend to cruise in deeper open areas, while smaller fish stay near reefs and weeds.
