Sat Dec 20 2025 armhole_Okay so. I’ve been wanting to play this game since I first heard about it a little over a year ago. I was unable to purchase it on steam due to unrelated hyper fixations and other financial burdens. When I saw this was being released on Apple Arcade, I immediately wish listed it and eagerly anticipated being able to download it.
I have to say, my expectations were absolutely exceeded. Gameplay-wise, I am 100% satisfied. The loop is satisfying and very addictive. The cult building gives a good break between each crusade and is a good way to avoid burning out after dying over and over again. Followers have a variety of designs you can choose from, and their dialogue is very fun. They each have unique personalities and I find myself growing emotionally attached to some over others. I find this to be the only game where I can actually take cruel actions without feeling bad, which I can’t say if it is a point for, or against the gameplay, haha. Combat is relatively easy to grasp while still maintaining a good challenge for more experienced players.
I would say that my only gripes are mostly on the UI side. I’m sure there are a lot of kinks to work out transitioning from a console and PC platform to IOS and MacOS. I’m not one to write a lot of reviews, but I figured it might be helpful to record some of the bugs I’ve encountered. I enjoy this game a lot, and unfortunately, some of the bugs have inhibited my experience.
The main issue I’ve encountered is the inability to save progression in the cult-building portion of the game unless travelling to a different area to trigger the autosave function. While not the biggest problem in the world, having to travel to a new area every time I want to transition to a new task (ie getting back to work from my lunch break) is somewhat frustrating. I have it pretty ingrained into me to manually save games every five minutes or so (thanks bg3), so it’s a very unconventional way to maintain a save file, at least to me. I find it odd for there to be a save button displayed, but unable to be used. I totally understand making it unavailable during the crusades because that’s the whole point, but we should be able to manually save progress from the cult building section without travelling to Midas’ cave or starting a new crusade.
There are also a couple of minor bugs I’ve encountered that have somewhat staggered my progress or otherwise slowed me down. I’ve had a couple instances of follower statuses not resolving, despite having addressed whatever issue they had. For example, when I rescued Yarlen’s sibling, they arrived at my camp with the injured tag. I had to go on another crusade to pick up some camellias to heal them, but they recovered from their injury on their own while I was away. However, the “injured” warning on the bottom of my screen didn’t resolve until I closed out of the app completely and reopened it. I’m not sure if this is a similar function, but the lingering status has also ended up killing one of my followers. A couple of them got into a bar fight, and despite me breaking it up “before someone got hurt” as the banner display informed me, one of them ended up killing the other a few seconds later. Which was disappointing (none of them are allowed to die without my permission).
I’ve also been completely unable to interact with my hatchery, beyond placing an egg and tending to it once. I’ve tried moving it away from my more crowded refinery area. I’ve tried resetting my game. Pretty much everything but uninstalling and reinstalling, which may be my next step. I was really excited to be able to have a more stable influx of followers so I could actually start *growing* my cult instead of having 2-3 die of old age and me frantically looking for new ones to take their places in the workload lol.
All that being said, it’s a great game that I’ve really enjoyed playing. These are very minor issues, except maybe the hatchery, as that’s a pretty mainline feature. I know this is still quite early days for the Apple release so there’s bound to be bugs to fix when making that transition. I would love to see some improvement on some of these features in the next few patches. Overall, I highly recommend giving this game a shot.
