68/100

Felicity's Door is a game that knows exactly what vibe it wants to project: cozy, mellow, and narrative-focused. Visually, it is lovely. The cutscenes are beautifully drawn, the character designs (especially the little bear) are adorable, and the UI is clean. The music tracks themselves are soothing, largely consisting of slow, instrumental pieces. If you are looking for a bedtime game to wind down with, the aesthetic presentation here is absolutely spot on.

However, as a rhythm game, it struggles heavily with its mechanics. The charting feels noticeably off-sync with the actual music, which is a cardinal sin for this genre. You often have to rely on visual cues rather than the audio beat to hit the notes successfully. Furthermore, the gameplay is incredibly slow. Even on the 'Expert' difficulty, the notes crawl down the screen. For veterans of games like Project Sekai or Cytus, this lack of speed and challenge will be incredibly boring.

There are also minor input issues where taps sometimes fail to register unless your finger placement is absolutely perfect. It’s a game with a lot of heart and a great story, but it needs significant optimization in its hit-detection and note-timing to be considered a great rhythm game. It's a pleasant, albeit flawed, experience.

Dinsun Review

I’ve played enough rhythm games to know that most of them are just about flashing lights and near-impossible note patterns. Felicity's Door takes a different approach, leaning heavily into its story and aesthetic. It’s a very 'soft' game—the art is dreamlike and the characters are endearing. It feels like playing through a storybook. For a jaded gamer like me, it was a surprisingly pleasant change of pace, though it might be a bit too 'precious' for some.

The rhythm mechanics themselves are solid, but they don't feel quite as snappy as the genre giants like Beatmania or even Project Sekai. Some of the note timings feel a bit loose, which can be frustrating on higher difficulties. However, the music selection is fantastic—Shinji Hosoe and kotringo bring a level of quality you don't usually see in mobile games. It’s a respectable effort, but it feels more like a 'rhythm experience' than a hardcore rhythm game.

Game Overview

Felicity's Door is a unique blend of a visual novel and a rhythm game, standing out with its wholesome atmosphere and slow-paced gameplay. Players follow the story of a young girl and her adorable bear companion as they travel through magical doors, progressing the narrative by completing rhythm-based music tracks. Unlike hardcore, high-speed rhythm games, this title focuses on relaxing, mellow melodies and emotional storytelling. It offers a charming, stress-free experience wrapped in beautiful aesthetics, completely free from the aggressive monetization typical of the mobile rhythm genre.
