Oceanhorn 2 is essentially the 'Breath of the Wild' for mobile devices, and it lives up to that lofty comparison remarkably well. The transition from the top-down perspective of the first game to a full third-person 3D world is handled with incredible finesse. Gaia is a world that feels lived-in, filled with secrets hidden behind every waterfall and cliffside.
The combat system feels responsive, and the addition of AI companions adds a layer of depth that keeps the journey from feeling lonely. I particularly loved the Caster Gun mechanics; it's a refreshing take on the 'magic' system that integrates perfectly with the game's mechanical-fantasy aesthetic. If you're an Apple Arcade subscriber, this is the definitive 'must-play' title that justifies the subscription cost on its own.
I’ll be honest, I was surprised. This doesn't feel like a mobile game. It feels like something I would have played on a GameCube or early Wii. It’s clearly a Zelda clone—let’s not pretend otherwise—but it’s a *good* one. The world is expansive and the production values are high. For once, I’m not looking at a screen filled with microtransaction buttons. It’s a breath of fresh air in the mobile market.
However, it lacks its own identity. Every puzzle and enemy feels like a 'greatest hits' collection from other, better games. The combat is a bit floaty, lacking the precision I expect from a dedicated action title. It’s impressive for a phone, but compared to the real heavy hitters of the genre, it’s still just a student following a master. Still, it’s a solid effort and worth a look if you want a 'real' game on the go.
Performance: Very demanding; requires a modern device to avoid thermal throttling and frame drops.
Buy if: You want a full-scale adventure without the usual mobile junk.
Skip if: You’ve played every Zelda game and want something truly original.
Available on: Mac, Apple TV, iPhone, iPad, iPod

Set a thousand years before the events of the first chapter, Oceanhorn 2: Knights of the Lost Realm takes you on a magical journey across the vast world of Gaia, brimming with mythology and lore. A young Knight faces an impossible challenge, as Warlock Mesmeroth has returned with a formidable Dark Army. You won't be alone; Trin, the granddaughter of Arcadia's leader, and Gen, a mysterious robot, will fight at your side.
