Become a Zombie Slaying God!
Fri Feb 26 2021 Michael_SquatThis game was amazing to me! As far as the production value goes, Survival Z oozes with quality. From the stylized cartoony visuals to the thematic music, my eyes and ears were very entertained during my playthrough.
My favorite aspect of this game is how it has you weighing the risk versus the reward, as you make your way to the final boss stage. You choose one out of several paths to victory—some are much more dangerous/challenging than others. However, each zombie invasion stage provides you with a perk or power-up upon completion. These perks stack on each other as you complete multiple stages. These perks range from increases in damage, firing-rate, multiple direction shots (bullet spread), and more. It’s seriously awesome to go from a slow single-firing wimp in the beginning to a zombie slaying god that can wipe out hordes in seconds by the end of the play-through. It’s a level of satisfaction that I haven’t experienced in most mobile games. You’ll find yourself spending in-game currency to upgrade your equipment and stationary weapons. The only real downside to me is how fast I was able to complete the entire game. Sure, I can grind out gold to upgrade 100% of my stuff, but I don’t see the point when the best gear has already been maxed.
Overall, this was one of the best games I’ve experienced on Apple Arcade! Hopefully, the developers will add more levels, tools, and additional features!
Very fun game
Sat Feb 20 2021 TalarinThis is a very fun game, reminiscent of Archero. As you progress through the levels, you gain items and gold. Between stages, you have the opportunity to upgrade your items and traps with the gold you have accumulated. You can also go back and replay previous stages to get more gold and any items you missed through your earlier play through.
You can also gather other characters that will play with you during the rest of that stage. Then at the end of the stage you can switch to any of the characters you’ve collected. My only complaint right now is that all the characters have the exact same stats. I would like to see an update in the future that gives the characters their own unique stats and maybe weapon types.
All in all though, I’m really enjoying this game and looking forward to what they do with it. I highly recommend it.
Just needs some tuning and polishing.
Sun Feb 21 2021 EStew2Alright so this game is ruthless, and so was my first review. Here’s my tutorial for starting out, because it is not easy and there are no tips given to ease your pain. Such is the zombie apocalypse. Basically what you want to do is collect all survivors, traps and equipment BEFORE you progress to the next area. You might get lucky and beat the first section in a couple runs like me. Ok cool, but now you are getting SLAUGHTERED going forward. Go back, collect the things, horde coins and start upgrading. You may have to run through the section you just finished a couple time before you feel upgraded enough to progress. This is why I have to give it 4 stars, because the balancing REALLY slows down progression. That, and I think some of the perks do not work. It would also be nice to be able to view the perks you have picked up. Maybe in the pause menu or something? Just a thought. I do like the Archero-type perk acquisition though, so points for that. I apologize to the devs for expecting a new game to be everything and more. I can tell this project was a labor of love and it really shows. This is already one of the best games on the app store and it can only get better! Great job and I will be looking forward to updates.
Good concept. Could be better
Mon Apr 05 2021 Mr.CoderCuracaoI like this game (the only reason j got apple arcade was for this game) but sometimes zombies get stuck in the spawn preventing you from shooting them this not allowing you to advance… also the game could definitely use an “endless” mode for replay ability.. another thing i would love to see is the ability to move on with your traps to the next level (on the map), i believe allowing this would make the player think a bit further as to which level they want to save up for so that they can beat a more difficult one… some other types of weapons would also be greatly appreciated (the game feels repetitive at this point).. co-op mode would also be fantastic where instead of the survivors (they’re dumb as f) following you, one could have a friend…. Also what’s the point of having me save all the survivors if they add nothing to the gameplay? I mean sure they’re cosmetics and that’s cool in itself but i would’ve loved to see some kind of special ability with each character, like for example the hazmat guy being able to walk in poison poodles or the swat girl being able to run faster… some levels could definitely be longer as well I’m dashing through these levels in a couple of seconds at times and that makes the experience quite “jerky”
Fun With Some Problems
Fri Mar 05 2021 StenographerThe game prompted me to review it after only about 20 minutes, so consider this a preliminary review. I am having a fun time, but also have noticed some rough spots. First, and least important, there are numerous typos I have noticed, and like I said I have only played for about 20 minutes. Second, the "tutorial" level is far too short, only covering the very basic parts of battle, and not any of the systems like upgrading, what happens at death, gear, etc. I died very early on and was sent to a "camp" screen where I could put on gear and upgrade it and various other things, but with no help. It seems easy enough to figure out, but that is a weak spot. Third, the number and type of traps you get seem random. Sometimes you get 3 sandbags, which act as walls but die quickly, and other times you may get one or two nailgun turrets, which have a lot of health and damage. Is there some way to build and prepare the traps you want at camp? This is not explained. I will keep playing and update this review as need be.
Loved it at first but hard to advance
Sun Feb 28 2021 SmallFryAmIThe difficulty of the enemies is way to fast for how hard it is to upgrade. The supplies caravan gets more and more difficult to get to...but the fully upgraded weapons from the previous level do minimal damage. It’s super difficult and the only way to upgrade the defenses is to do the lower levels over and over again because the new levels are too difficult to complete. The maps are great but super difficult to navigate and it’s easy to accidentally get yourself cornered and when your weapons and other upgrades aren’t upgraded enough, you just die super easily. I’m sure there’s some other tactic to it I haven’t figured out or maybe it’s just above my skill level but idk. The other characters don’t have anything special. Like why don’t you have the cops fire guns or have various weapons or other special upgrades? Why can’t you have the option to take one of them with you? Also there’s been a glitch where the “Unscouted” areas freeze up the game and I have to forfeit to fix it.
Latest update nerfs difficulty
Thu Mar 11 2021 007 BennyLatest update fixed some small bugs (looping sound effect was most annoying, thanks!). But now we have looping dirt clouds if you kill the spike spawner guy right when the spikes are about to emerge. This happens to me virtually every time I’m on a level with that guy.
Biggest problem though is the new money bags. They cover up all the action. Impossible to se what’s going on behind them. They’re pretty I guess and fix the minor issue that some coins were worth more than other coins, but really that was a small thing compared with the playability issue introduced. And a matter of opinion I guess is that I don’t feel like the bright purple fits with the feeling or color scheme of the game. Games feels somewhat cheapened now, like I’m playing a candy crush clone when there’s dozens of bright purple money bags on screen.
Still a 5-star game and here’s hoping for updates and new levels!
Top notch game
Thu Mar 25 2021 Sandy SparklerThis game has:
Zombies, strategy, upgrades, adventure, the works!
Not a whole lot of storyline, wish there was an explore mode. Beyond that very solid game. If you’re looking to kill some time, kill some zombies, you’ve found the right game. The customisation options are awesome, upgrading defence where you notice a difference feels satisfying, same for tactical gear & weapons.
Overall highly highly recommend checking out if you’re at all into puzzles, zombies, survivals strategy games.
Biggest requests as I saw the developers are active (also a huge plus, thank you ahead of time for the response ♥️):
Have a stat menu under the settings screen or have a drop down button / pop up menu during the planning phase. Would be awesome to see how the stats (crit, ricochet, increased damage) correlate to overall DPS. Maybe adding a life steal ability (if not already available, I’ve only made it 3rd phase)?
Would be nice to have slightly bigger maps for more intricate planning, maybe a “zen mode” or side games to earn different perks for the characters.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this. Genuinely love the game, please do not sell out or ruin it by feeling the pressure to do more. It’s amazing, go with the flow and don’t let the haters get you down. All the best 🥳
Fun but latest update has major issue
Sat Feb 27 2021 JRE-CinciI got this when it first came out and really enjoyed it. It has a good balance and I like earning gold to buy better things. I’ve beaten all the levels. Here are my gripes (some minor):
> the “incoming” and sometimes other character dialogue covers part of the screen obscuring what’s there. It’s intrusive to the gameplay.
> the dialogue screens on medical and salvager nodes is unnecessarily several clicks to get to the perk choice. It’s the same every time so just make it one click or skip it altogether.
> the new update shows the perks on the transition screen which is nice but I’d also like to see what percentage of the perk is in effect. For example, if I pick increase damage perk several times, is it maxed out or 30%?
> finally, the new update broke the game where when you go to start a level, the screen goes black and nothing happens. You force quit the game and at the title screen you choose continue game and it just sits at the title screen. You have to abandon level to get it working again but it will happen all over again at some point. I think it happens on the ??? unscouted nodes.
I also started a level once where my character appear MANY times on the screen, overlapping itself. It played and I crushed the zombies because I had a clone army lol. It went away after the level. Seems they rushed out the update without good regression testing.
Good but
Sun Jul 25 2021 OccMuffinsThis is a good game, fun to play mechanics are ok but it’s way too fast paced for its own good, maps are too small, character is too slow, shooting is too slow and zombies are too much and too fast. That’s really the only issue here, if you slowed the zombies by like 10% or something or made maps less cramped or just bigger or made the character slightly faster it would be much better. As of right now, dying it fast and the character is slow. Not a good combo when zombies are nearly as fast as you, have ones that shoot and are hard to see along with just having tons of them. Also like I said before dying in this game is WAY too fast especially considering you lose everything and then have to start at a harder level and can’t grind so you’re just banging your head against a wall for awhile. Too many small issues to be called a good game as of right now
