Hits rating
Sun May 30 2021 UnrulyGGThe game is great for when you're bored and wanna just kill some time. I like the challenges, makes you go back and actually try to get double SS ratings. Controls are good once you tune them right and the graphics are good. I'm playing on a 12 pro max so it holds up well. Only when it gets hot and the frame rate drops, but that's on the phone- not the game. Sometimes I just do missions I've already done just to level up because it's easy (I'm on beginner mode right now). My only caviot with this game is that the rating system for hits are confusing. I didn't go through the tutorial so I don't if that was covered or not but it's getting annoying. I will grind stages I've already done to get an "SS" but getting a "B" In hits will cause me to get an "A" overall ranking, which is annoying. It will give me 14 hits when I literally did a 30 hit combo 😐. That just doesn't make sense to me if I'm taking the time to go back to try for an SS only to end up wit a A rank. That's literally the only problem I have with this game. If the developers can fix the issue or at least reply back & explain it to me; I'd be much more interested putting my all in the game.
Handheld Quality Level Game
Thu Jun 17 2021 chev_327_foxThis feels like a cross between Soul Sacrifice and Muramasa Demon Blade. Playing with a controller and a phone grip that connects to the controller I felt like I was playing those console quality games. Also I just love the combat and the overall aesthetic of this game and even the story is interesting (especially if you really like traditional Japanese mythical lore like I do).
Oh and I am on an iPhone X and it plays great so not sure why people with newer iPhones say it is unplayable.
A few downsides are that it forces you to watch all the into and outro and if you got a lot of new Yokai and items be prepared to wait awhile while tying to get to the next screen. Another thing I dislike is the level gating of the next story chapter just to force you to do more side missions. You cannot see the Yokai names in the selection menu. You sometimes target non-enemies even if enemies are present (rare but frustrating). Last issue I can think of is the enemies will bug out if targeting a Yokai too long and won’t attack you (happens when using Santaro). But none of this hurts the experience too bad.
Platinum games never misses
Mon Jan 08 2024 travelingtanukiPlatinum games never misses , even here with there venture into the mobile market they some how nailed combat for a mobile device. Don’t get me wrong you can use controller but playing touch feels super intuitive. After completing one or two beautiful hand drawn water color style stages you’ll be feeling like a true BA lol. The only thing that makes me sad is I recently found out this will be leaving Apple Arcade very very soon T.T. So immediately I put my other games on pause and told myself I NEED to play through this now incase it never re surfaces after leaving the surface. I really hope platinum will re release this on the switch , pc, mobile etc so others will get a chance to try this lovely game and if I miss it in the future can re turn to it !! We truly don’t get enough beautiful games like this on the mobile platform !! The art style takes me back to the days of Okami !! Ty platinum for pouring your heart into all your projects o7
Another Platinum Hit!
Mon May 17 2021 CousinikeThis game is so fun! Regardless of how you play it, either it be with a controller or the touch controls, it plays flawlessly. Dodging is easy (which you expect from PLT), and the sword play is easy to do also. Mixing and matching Yokai, and finding the right combination is a blast. Then all the upgrading stuff is cool, not as in-depth as you’d hope, but then I’m reminded it’s a mobile game. The story is so so, I definitely found myself skipping a lot at times, but really, this is a game meant for good story. The Lvl design can get repetitive at times, and have to back track with them is a bit tedious. But all in all, this is an awesome game, so awesome I had to write this review, which is the only review I have ever done on the App Store. So DEFINITELY try this game!
A very rare console-like experience
Thu May 20 2021 Romey_YoI’m always skeptical when it comes to mobile games as the never capture the feel of a console game. This surprised me, especially this is from Platinum Games which are known for there great console games like Bayonetta. The graphics are very much like Okami with that art style that caught my attention. The the combat is like other great action games like Devil May Cry, Bayonetta, Metal Gear Rising, heck I could even mention Dynasty Warriors a bit. There’s plenty to do if you’re a completionist like me and replaying stages to get all S rankings. Brilliant game. Recommend to use a Xbox series controller or Dual Shock/Dual Sense, touch screen controls is awful and doesn’t give that satisfaction using a controller.
Great action game for phone
Wed Oct 13 2021 Lord burger bonbonThis game has pretty fun hack and slash gameplay. Choosing when you want to do a heavy slash is enough to vary combat, though delayed combos (think DMC) would’ve been even better for depth and player expression. The Yokai are all cool and figuring out how they can extend combos or just help in general is always fun. don’t forget about the merge arts, those are fun too…I did until after I unlocked the last playable character. I really like how the last character is pretty much the Vergil to Onimaru’s Dante. Dude even has void slash, getting a perfect dodge or block in this game is always satisfying and the reward for it is good too. Adding more enjoyment to be found. Great game all around.
Exactly What It Needs To Be
Sun Apr 25 2021 Zarb EbnerPlatinumGames really did it again, but on mobile :~0 I personally play this game with a PS4 controller on my iPad and it feels super smooth (played for about 4 hours so far). Just another great fighting game that's good for both longplay sessions in the story, and shortplay sessions with all the side mission. The ability to upgrade weapons & yokai is cool because it provides depth, yet the upgrade system hasn't ever felt cumbersome so that's a plus.
With a service like Apple Arcade, it's easy to start playing something and then stop if I'm not immediately satisfied in like 5 minutes. But this game has me hooked!
GREAT GAME THIS IS AWESOME
Sat May 21 2022 Kellenplays94OK So I Have ALL Yokai And I Have Beaten The Game And I Have ALL 4 SAMURAIS! My Favorite Ultima Is THOUSAND HANDS And I Eventually At The Beginning Got Brave Enough To Go To The Outer Void And I Was Not Brave Because Shuten Doji Was Supposed To Be The Final Boss And I Thought, What?! This Is Not The End! But I Heard What Otoroshi Said And I Went Anyway! That’s When I Realized IT WAS KUMA DOJI. I’m Giving This A 5 Star And My Favorite Yokai Is Ibaraki Doji Because Of Mask. I’m Liking It A LOT And You’re A Genius Graphic Designer, Modeler, And Master! (I Said Master Because This Is Japan) And Where IN Japan Did You Hear About Those Yokai? I WANT TO LEARN MORE!!! Thanks. Also, HOW ON EARTH Did You Model The Kama-Itachi???

Youkai enthusiasts
Wed Jun 07 2023 OnikozoI was sold the moment I saw the Youkai and how well you stuck to their original designs, then I played the game and now I’m absolutely hooked, the story is A1 and it makes me can’t wait to see what Youkai I will come across next and the fact that you can utilize their abilities is epic 5stars, MY ONE ISSUE is the targeting system, could use a rework lol there was multiple moments where I locked on to stage fire in the middle of combat an couldn’t stop locking on the the fire no matter were I turned or what I pressed
An Incredible View Into The Future of Gaming!
Wed Apr 14 2021 GrunglehoundAnother well crafted piece by Platinum Games. This game redefines what it means to play a mobile game! From an already popular Hyrule/Dynasty Warrior ‘Siege and Battle’ format as I like to call it, comes their flawless implementation with no performance issues on High (iPad Air 4th Gen) as well as delivering a well crafted, charming and humorous experience like any one of Platinum’s other hit titles. This game has me excited for the future of mobile gaming! Keep up the fantastic work Platinum! You deserve that name 👍
