Advanced Mill is a solid, no-frills digital version of the ancient game 'Nine Men’s Morris.' For fans of traditional board games, this is a breath of fresh air. The AI is surprisingly formidable—it’s excellent at setting up double-mills (the 'see-saw' strategy) that can wipe out your pieces in just a few turns.

The UI is clean and traditional, which fits the 3,000-year-old history of the game. I particularly appreciated the 'Move Suggestions' feature, which is a great way for beginners to learn the offensive and defensive patterns. While it doesn't have the bells and whistles of a modern strategy title, its focus on pure, unadulterated logic makes it a perfect brain-training app.

Nine Men’s Morris is one of those games that doesn't need bells and whistles, and thankfully, Advanced Mill doesn't try to add any. It’s a clean, efficient implementation of a classic. The AI is surprisingly tough on the higher levels, which I appreciate; it doesn't just hand you the win. The UI is a bit utilitarian—it’s not going to win any beauty contests—but it’s easy to read and responsive. If you like Chess or Checkers, you’ll find this to be a nice change of pace. It’s a 'thinker’s game' and it’s treated with the proper respect here. It doesn't try to be anything it isn't, and for a traditional board game app, that’s exactly what I want.
