I remember when Angry Birds was about clever physics and simple fun. Angry Birds Friends is where that innocence went to die. It’s the same core mechanic—slinging birds at pigs—but it’s been warped into a 'games-as-a-service' nightmare. The focus is entirely on weekly tournaments and social rankings. If you aren't using power-ups, you aren't winning, and power-ups, of course, are designed to be bought.
As a 40-year-old, I find the constant social pressure and 'fear of missing out' to be exhausting. The levels are well-designed enough, I suppose, but the soul is gone. It feels like a slot machine disguised as a puzzle game. It’s highly polished, sure, but it’s a conservative, corporate polish that lacks any real heart. It’s fine if you just want to kill five minutes on the bus, but don't expect the satisfaction of the original games. It’s a cynical product designed to maximize engagement, not enjoyment.
