Angry Birds Bounce is a breath of fresh air for a franchise that has explored almost every genre imaginable. By pivoting to a brick-breaker mechanic infused with rogue-lite progression, Rovio has created something that feels both nostalgic and modern. The physics are incredibly satisfying—watching your flock ricochet off a dozen surfaces to clear a screen of smug green pigs never gets old.
The inclusion of rogue-lite elements is the secret sauce here. Choosing power-ups between levels adds a layer of depth that previous entries lacked. You aren't just aiming; you're building a 'build.' Whether you go for high-impact explosions or chain-lightning bounces, the variety ensures that no two sessions feel the same. The visuals are easily the best the series has seen on mobile, with vibrant animations that pop off the screen. It’s an essential addition to any Apple Arcade library.
The original Angry Birds was a cultural moment because it was simple and perfectly balanced for touch. Bounce feels like a committee-designed product intended to fill a slot in a catalog. The physics don't feel quite right—they're floaty and unpredictable.
It’s another game designed to be 'sticky' rather than 'good.' The levels are too short, the difficulty is non-existent for the first 50 stages, and then it suddenly hits a wall to encourage you to use power-ups. I’m tired of the birds, and I’m tired of these low-effort physics puzzles. Let the franchise die with dignity.
Performance: Runs well, though the physics engine occasionally glitches when items are packed too tightly.
Buy if: You are five years old and like birds.
Skip if: You want a physics puzzle with actual depth like 'Portal' or 'The Witness'.
Available on: Mac, Apple TV, iPhone, iPad, iPod
