I grew up with DDR and Parappa the Rapper. I know rhythm. This is not it. Beat Gun is what happens when someone decides to mash two popular tags together without understanding the nuance of either. The 'gun shooting' is purely cosmetic; you’re just tapping notes like any other bargain-bin rhythm app, only the feedback is a loud, jarring gunshot sound that usually ruins the actual song you're trying to listen to.
The tracklist is filled with the kind of royalty-free EDM that makes my head ache, and the sync is often just slightly off, which is the cardinal sin of the genre. It’s clearly designed to be an 'ad delivery system' first and a game second. Every few levels, you're bombarded with 30-second clips for other games that look exactly like this one. It's a hollow experience for people who don't actually like music or shooters.
